My stay was nearly cut short, I was nearly expelled from Eldoret, but

My mother, a Kenya High OG who lives in Scotland, bumps into loads of LOGS all the time, while there seem to be very few of us in the Midwest of the US. My ex-Zimbabwean husband and I have only been back to Kenya once since I left in 1962, but we are planning to climb Mt Kilimanjaro in February 2004 to celebrate our 50^th birthdays (yes I know we're crazy, but its something I've wanted to do ever since my early childhood when my Dad and Grand Pa used to take the Outward Bound boys up the mountain, and Mum and I would stay at the bottom at Loitokitok), so we will also have a nice long safari in Kenya afterwards, and I hope to go back and see all the changes as Msongari.

The eldest of five girls who all attended Loreto. (Pauline joined the Loreto Order and now teaches in Tanzania). Our home was in Kampala and I first went to Loreto in 1942 when it was at Lumbwa. In 1948 I went to the Kenya Girls High School and then to Switzerland for a year. In 1954 I married Eric Knowlden (also an East African) and we have two daughters and two sons (all adults). After six years in England, we emigrated to Australia in 1962 and are very happily settled on Sydney’s North Shore. I have worked mainly in secretarial jobs but am also involved in desk top publishing. I took my degree as a mature aged student at Macquarie University. I am a feminist with a keen interest in church affairs (as they affect women) and am delighted to be liberated from the very rigid Catholicism which was so much of our life at Loreto. knowlden@one.net.au (14-3-00)

I attended Loreto Msongari for 10 years, leaving after doing my O'Levels in 1981. My sister Karen was there with me, and my mother, Maureen ( nee O'Carroll), was a Chemistry teacher there all that time. Mum had also been a student at Msongari in the late 1950's, when her family lived in Uganda.
Since leaving Msongari, I did a degree and teaching certificate at Oxford University, before returning to Nairobi to teach science (following in both my parents' footsteps!). I was married in Nairobi in 1995, then took a teaching post with my husband in Jakarta. We are now back in Africa, teaching in the American International School in Lusaka, Zambia. All my family are still in Nairobi, and we return there as often as possible. I have never received any old girls info from Msongari, nor have I been to any official reunions.
