Younger sister of Sylvia. After ten years in the sunshine of the Middle East I am now living in Taunton, Somerset, where my children have/are having their secondary education at Taunton School. It was here that I discovered Lucy Walker (Lutenauer) – the Admissions Secretary – was also at the Convent! She has now left her position at the school and currently works for the Royal Bank of Scotland in Taunton. I saw her recently in Smiths and she told me she is returning to Africa this year for the first time so is very excited at the prospect. I work as a secretary/administrator for a firm of chartered surveyors in Taunton; my son Chris is now in his first year at Bangor University studying Sport Science and my daughter Katherine is studying for her A levels this summer. I keep in touch with my friend Lesley Richardson (Piper) who was at at schoool with me both at the Convent and at Wentworth Milton Mount in Bournemouth. I left Msongari in 1962 and finished my schooling at Wentworth Milton Mount, Bournemouth (other LOGs also went there – my sister Linda Lowe and Joanna Hankey and Lesley Richardson both nee Piper). My parents left Kenya in ’63 when my father’s job waas africanised. I married a Naval Officer and moved all over the UK, eventually settling in Devon. I have two gorgeous daughters both of whom have fallen in love with Kenya, so much so that my eldest now works on wildlife conservancy north of Mount Kenya. I am now single and living in Dartmouth. From Arusha; gained a degree from Glasgow School of Art, taught in schools, studied a further year in Chicago, and then did some voluntary work in the Seychelles from 1981-83. Currently lecturing in Scotland. I paint the rest of the time (mainly landscapes) and have exhibitions in galleries in Scotland, England and recently in the USA. May I take advantage of this message to include a description of a project which is being carried out in Kenya (on the coast at Mtwapa) by a Mr. Antoni. It concerns the building of a residential "village" for nostalgic Kenyans who want to retire back in Kenya. The project is financed through funds and donations and is truly very interesting and "tempting". I'd love to hear from any friends around the world or still in Kenya, where I tend to return as often as I can. My heart and spirit are still there, buried deep, even though I have been in Italy for 37 years. Kenya is in the blood for keeps and also Loreto notwithstanding what then we considered a strict education! All that followed had no comparison... and the Loreto "chain" is a strong proof of an indelible marking.

I was born in Kongwa, Tanganyika (near Dodoma) and later moved to Kenya in 1955 when 2 years old, but I regard myself as home-grown Kenyan!!  Early schooling was at Parklands before it closed and then Kilimani where I sat my KPE and first choice secondary school was of course, Msongari, where I stayed for 3 years until I boarded in the UK.

Just by chance I came upon this website, it had never occurred to me that I could revisit my old school. I lived in Nairobi for 2 years only from 1962-1964 - I would have been 7 years old when I first attended Valley Road. My father was in the Foreign Office. Are there any photos of the school building, and were there any year photos taken which I could get copies of please?
