Took my School Cert. In 1956. Departed East Africa in 1959 for the U.K. Eventually landed in California 30 years ago with husband and 2 children and have stayed ever since. Both children now married, each with 2 children of their own. Have attended several reunions, which are WONDERFUL.

I left Loreto Msongari in July 1965 to go to Loreto Abbey Road LLandudno to
do my Olevels there in June 1966.....a terrible time to change schools and my
saving grace was the fact that I had the wonderful continuity of "Loreto
Nuns" to nurture me through the huge culture shock of coming to Britain! Marg
Corbett was with me too and a girl from Eldoret called Sue Kennard. 30+
years later and I am happily married to a farmer and we live in Oxfordshire
keeping busy with our holiday cottage business and the farm too.I have a web site for

After leaving Msongari, I had three years at Reading University where I got a BSc(Hons) in Computer Science. I worked for a Japanese Trading Company for three months and then joined IBM. I have been with IBM ever since, working my way up from Technical Support to Management and now manage a team of 15 Techies!! I have been married for twelve years to Paul (who I met at Reading) and have a gorgeous cat called Mia…In my spare time (??!!!) I am doing an MBA in Management. Loreto Lumbwa 1939 - 1945, Msongari to 1953 after A Levels. To London for tertiary and then a return to Kenya for a spell in teaching followed by marriage and having a family, pidgeon pair. We emigrated to South Africa in 1971 and from 1974 I taught in an Independent Girls' School outside Johannesburg, becoming its Headmistress from 1982 to 1995. I retired from that at 60 and am now working in a marketing consultancy as well as in Early Childhood Development on the education side here. We have just produced our first book! We have started a South African LOG Branch with about 170 members and we have so far had two reunions, one in Johannesburg in 1998 and just recently on 12 February, in Kloof, KwaZulu Natal. waltonrb@global.co.za (8-3-00)

Helga Doenhoff – London SW1. Lumbwa & Msongari 1950.
Born in Tanzania (Tanganyika as it was then) a few years before the war,
where my parents were farmers. We moved to Nyanza District in Kenya
immediately after the war. Was a border at Loreto for the whole of my school days (which started at the age of 5!), starting at Lumbwa during the war years, followed by a very brief spell in Mombasa and then at Msongari until 1950.
My working days began as a secretary in the City of London, followed by
several years back in Kenya as a secretary-cum-personal assistant, and then initially but with projects in the three then British Protectorates of
Swaziland, Botswana (Bechuanaland at the time) and Lesotho (Usutoland at that time), before being transferred to Swaziland. I left Swaziland in 1968, and joined a large group of companies in South Africa, working on the Natal North Coast, latterly as Purchasing Manager. Since 1986 I have been with the same group of companies, but looking after their London office, from where I expect to be put out to graze - I guess in the not too distant future now! We live in Kilifi and run a small dairy farm, make rugs and look after various houses. If anyone is interested in coming out for a holiday and renting a very nice house do let me know. Most of them are on the beach and have swimming pools, two servants, usually one of them is a very good Cook and all fully equipped.

I was at Msongari, then Valley Road and finished at Msongari in about 1959. Michael O'Grady (Mog) ex Duke of York, and I were married in Nairobi in 1964 and had three sons. We left Kenya for Durban in 1973 where we have been ever since, although returned to Kenya almost every year for a Mombasa holiday, until six years ago.
