Msongari 1967 - 1970. Born in Nairobi in 31/5/1954.
Both parents born in Kenya : father (Jack Irwin) in Eldoret - mother (Mary Roberts) in Nairobi. Father was with the Kenya Police for 38 years. Dad went to the Prince of Wales and Mum was at the Kenya High. I have 2 younger brothers, Malcolm Irwin (now living in Dorset) and Patrick Irwin (still in Kenya) Both went to St. Mary's. We lived in Nairobi until 1958, then moved to Machakos, Mombasa and then Nakuru, returning to Nairobi in 1964. Back in Nairobi I attended St. George's primary school. I started at Msongari when Mother Germaine was head and I thought she was wonderful. My first 2 years at Msongari were very happy but when Mother Germaine moved on and Sister Pauline became head, things went a bit downhill for me and I was delighted to leave after my 'O' level's in December 1970. I followed a family tradition - all attended Msongari; my aunt Joan Woodhouse (nee Irwin) - now 86 and living in Napier New Zealand. They left Kenya just before independence; my godmother and 2nd cousin, Pam Paxman (nee Scott) - now mid 70's - Pam has lived in Durban, South African since mid 60's; my cousin Mary Boyce (nee Woodhouse) - Mary has lived in Rainbow Beach, Queensland, Australia for many years.
Some of the girls I remember well from my year: Vicky Lyall (nee Winter), Elaine Bridson, Pauline Raven, Tori Goodhew (nee Bowler), Janet Lugonzo, Vicky McLeod, Jackie Stout, Deborah Latham, Lydia Sembeguia (sp?) (she was from Uganda - I often wonder what ever happened to her). Liz Davenport, Erica Whiteside, Penny Stevens, Fran Frost, Linda Walker, Lynn Farrar, Melanie Crowder, Mary-Jo Spencer, Nicky Skinner : Liz Ball (nee Deacon) and Linda Coghlan (they were a year above us). sandiep@utulivu.com (14/09/04)
