I am an old Loreto girl living in South Yorkshire, England. My maiden name was Yvonne Edith Ochwaya. I studied at Loreto Limuru between January 1981 and November 1986. I sat for my O-Levels in 1984. Then I went on to do my A-Levels which I sat for in 1986. I was the school's Music Captain from 1984 to 1986. I played the guitar a lot and sang in the school choirs.

When I first went to start my secondary school education in Form1 in 1981, Sister Mary O'Connor was the Headteacher. But soon after, Sister Mary Owens came in (we were actually told that she had been there before). Sister Mary Owens is such a lovely person. She shaped me into what I am today. I am highly indebted to her for that. May God bless her abundantly. I plan to visit both the Irish Republic and Northern Ireland in my pursuit of 'getting a hands-on experience of locating exactly where the lovely KenyaLoreto sisters came from'!

For those of you that can remember, it was me that wrote the lyrics to the school song "God bless Loreto Limuru, make her a strong rock to stand. In the cross we place our trust, Let it be what it's been. Cruci Dum Spiro Fido"!!!

I am a Kenyan member of the London Chapter; and would like to be in touch with any girls that were in Limuru anywhere really between 1981 and 1986. I would be particularly keen to hear from those in my cohort, 1981-86. Where are you? Do you remember that wonderful Golden Jubilee in 1986, and all the pomp and ceremony that had to go with it! I left Msongari about 1962, at the age of 14 when we moved to Zambia. Gerry finished school at Msongari and would have left about the same time. She lives in Farnham, Hants. in England. After many years in South Africa, I moved to Canada in 1982 with my husband and three children. I still miss Africa dreadfully. Bernise O'Reilly - Msongari & Eldoret 1970s.
I spent my early childhood in Entebbe. My father was a pilot and my Mother was a tourist guide. I started boarding at Eldoret in 1970 and spent two years there. Loved it most of the time but absolutely hated hockey! I remember the old school bus, the scary ghost stories, flying home with my dad for the half term holidays and the constant wind blowing through the gum and wattle trees along the avenue.
In 1972, after missing the first term, I finally joined my old Eldoret classmates at Msongari - the 'big girls' school! How glamorous Nairobi seemed to me in those days! The excitement of going to the Thorn Tree on Saturday mornings to meet with friends, and queuing for the cinema in the afternoon, lying about our age just so we could get in to see "Jaws"! I left Msongari in 1976 and did a nine month secretarial course at Kianda College. Does anyone remember the wonderful ice cream you could get from Westlands in its early days? The wonderful old shops are all gone now - replaced by a heaving mass of buildings, all on top of each other…Christmas Eve 1976 saw me leaving Africa for good. I joined my mother in London and met real snow for the first time!
I worked for the Crown Agents at Millbank, London from 1977-84.
I celebrated my 21^st by travelling to the USA on my own and fell in love with San Francisco and the California coast line. I also got to meet my American pen friend who I'd been writing to since my Msongari days.
Since 1984 I have worked for a theatrical agency and in the UK film industry. I am still involved in film acquisitions and marketing. I've been able to meet some very interesting people through this job, the most memorable being Mel Gibson, my favourite actor!
In 1992 I spent three wonderful months travelling round Australia (and also got to meet my best friend from Loreto days who moved out to Perth with her husband some years ago). Whilst on this trip I also met my current partner, David.
In 1997 I had my first long visit back to Kenya, staying with my brother and his family.I am now living in London Docklands - but still miss East Africa. I'm trying to study for a degree with the Open University...in between travelling around Europe, the USA, Canada and Kenya. Good to see a few familiar names. Have spent 18 years in the travel industry and now am a full time mum to Alex 5yrs old. Perth has been home for the last 15 yrs.
