I was an AFS exchange student from the US at Loreto Limuru in 1977 in sixth form and have wonderful memories of my time there.
I work as a Director of an environmental NGO.
We had a French teacher when I was at Limuru named Claude Dusaidi who was from Rwanda. He visited me soon after I returned to the States when he was studying in Canada. He stayed with my family for a few days and we went into New York City and saw a Broadway play. I happened to be in Cambodia when the Rwandan genocide began and saw him on the news as a Tutsi spokesperson. I never saw him again on the news but then saw him quoted in a very moving book about the genocide called "We Regret to Inform You that Tomorrow We and Our Families Will Be Killed." He was an advisor to President Kagame after the Hutu nationalists were forced from power. I wrote the author to try and track him down. The author replied that Claude had died of an AIDS-related illness a few years ago.
If you have any other ideas of ways to track down former students - especially from Loreto Limuru, I'd be very interested.

I lived in East Africa during 1968-71 while my father, a biologist, studied
zebra in the Serengeti Game Park in Tanzania. I entered Msongari briefly at
the end of 1969 (to see if I could adjust to boarding school) and then
joined "for real" in 1970 (Form II) and 1971 (Form III). We left in
mid-1971, when my father's grant terminated and we had to return to the U.S.
At the time, I believe I was the only American boarder at Msongari, although
there were several day-students. I remember a lot of people from my class,
mostly by their first names (I have a terrible memory for last names!):
Renata Vassallo and her friends Anna and Orietta, Ulrike Jenning (whom I
"found" via the Loreto Newsletter), Mary Ann and her older sister Elizabeth,
the "twins" Gay and Mary, Susan who was such a superb horsewoman, and many others! I'd love to hear from anyone from those times, if you're
interested! I wasn't too memorable, I suspect, since at the time I was
painfully shy and a full year younger than everyone in my class, although I
did well academically.
Anyhow, after attending high school and university in the U.S., I studied in Japan for 2 1/2 years, where I met and married my Peruvian husband, Lucho (a fellow foreign student). I returned to the U.S. for graduate work at Princeton, then joined American Express Company, where I worked as a mid-level executive specializing in government relations, public policy analysis, etc., for 13 years, primarily in NY, Washington DC, Tokyo, and Hong Kong (where I handled the entire Asian region).
I quit at the end of 1998 and am currently living again in Tokyo, Japan, where my husband owns his own company. We have no children, though we are thinking of adopting, and I am currently working at becoming a published fiction writer, as well as sprucing up my Japanese. I have been living in England since 1980 - but still feel a Kenyan! Went back for the first time since my mother (Menina Slade nee Gordon, Msongari 1927?) died, and was very happy to see little had really changed. It is still home. Nearly didn't make it out there though, as I was on the BA flight complete with mad Kenyan that tried to take control of the plane - I am sure you heard of it! We literally dropped out of the sky and one can only be thankful that we all made it - especially as I was going out to Kenya for a family wedding with my nephew. NOT an experience to be repeated! Am now working for a UK-based IT training company so will have less travel, a less frenetic lifestyle and more time for friends and family. My daughter Annalise (nearly 21) is now into her degree course at Central St Martin's School of Design in London, and is loving both the course and having the whole of London as her campus! Completed A'levels at Msongari in 1982 and left Nairobi to pursue higher education in Calgary, Alberta Canada. When I saw the beauty of the Canadian Rockies, I knew I had arrived at the place where I wanted to spend the rest of my life. Sometime between then and now, I:
- completed my B.Sc. in psychology (I thought I wanted to be a doctor, but obviously, I was wrong),
- obtained a graduate degree in sociology (not quite sure how that happened),
- married a crazy Brazilian-Canadian called Wlad Franco-Valias (theonly thing I was certain about) and
- settled down into a career as a sociologist (although, I'd much rather be organizing birding tours).
Wlad and I have two beautiful shelties and we spend as much time as we can hiking, birding and skiing in the marvellous Rockies, and travelling to warmer climes when the Canadian winter gets a bit too chilly for our tropical bones.
I'd love to hear from LOGs who were in Msongari during my tenure there (especially all the ones I played the guitar, tennis, volleyball and hockey with!).

I lived in Mbeya, a far forgotten border town in the Southern Highlands inTanzania. After primary in Mbeya, secondary in Arusha, I went to Msongari which I left in 1969. I then went to Frankfield Secretarial College, Tonbridge Wells (UK) - the same College to which Adrienne Brice (neé Fox) went. Subsequently I spent a couple of years working as secretary for a London Finance House. In 1972 I decided to visit Trieste, Italy: my

I have relatives still in Kenya and my first visit after 23 years was just the beginning for me, I didn´t realize until then how much I had actually missed the bush . My visits got out of hand I started to go at least twice a year , it was becoming my second home again, I even left clothes from one visit to the next . The advantage I have is my husband does business in Kenya and Uganda along with many more African countries .
Born in Kampala 14/6/53, lived there until I was 3. We then moved to Nakuru. Looking at my old school reports, I must have moved to Nairobi in 1959. Attended Parklands school until 1961 then went to Valley Road Convent until 1968. I was then sent with my sister who is 2 years younger to a boarding school in England. We went to the Convent in Cheltenham along with the 3 Barlow sisters ( Brigitte, Patricia and Moira), Sheila Rooney and Sheila Waggly (or Raggly). They were also from Valley Road.
The closest friend I had at the convent in Kenya was Linda -Anne Noon she remained in Kenya .We met up many years later in London. I then moved to S. Africa where I met my husband. We now live Gerolsbach, a little town between "Pfaffenhofen an de Ilm " and Schrobenhausen , between hop and asparagus growing areas .We are north of Münich on the main north to south highway .Over the years I kept a loose contact with Linda-Anne who is now in Cape Town. The last contact was about 3 years ago. After finding your web page I tried again to contact her, though up until now no luck .
I have 2 cousins who went to Msongari, Doreen and Valarie Brooks they are now in England . (Yes Liz , Chris and Phil are also my cousins. There is also Patsy and June. June I think also taught at Msongari. They are all Valerie's brothers and sisters.)
